07.10.21 🎉 Fourth time’s the charm! (Fourth date, that is, not fourth guy 🤣)

After three frustrating postponements, I finally got to marry this handsome babe and we got to have the special day we’d dreamed up for so long 😍.

Some time after the first postponement, we wondered if we should change our plan instead of continuing to change our date. Should we just pick a new venue or location? Reduce our guest count or have a mini-mony? Have a City Hall wedding? 🤷🏻‍♀️ We considered the options, but after too many compromises beyond our control we decided to just keep waiting until we could have the beautiful day we had envisioned.

…and I am SO glad we did. Our patience paid off and July 10th was OUR day, at last 👰🏻. It wasn’t perfect (despite all the extra time because that’s just now how weddings work, I learned 🙃), but it was absolutely beautiful. Surrounded by our people on a sunny San Diego day in an absolutely gorgeous space, my best friend became my husband and I couldn’t ask for much more than that 💖

P.S. More photos to come, but probably not for awhile since we’re off honeymooning now 🤗

Why, you ask? Because, at the time, I remember thinking 💭 “Wow, this is SO beautiful, I just wish there was a teeny tiny bit more variety” after 7 days of eating bread 🥖 with cured meat and cheese 🧀 for breakfast. ⁠

Fast forward to present day where I am itching to travel ✈️ again and realizing how silly that was in the grand scheme of things 🤦🏻‍♀️. (Not that I let that thought ruin the day or anything, but that I even spent time taking away from the special moment bums me out a little 😕).⁠

Part of this pandemic feels like the universe’s way of putting us all in our own corners to reflect on how good we actually had it. Days like today, I feel like yelling ”I’m sorry for being so ungrateful! I've learned my lesson. Can I *pleeeease* be out of timeout now?” 😭⁠

P.S. We're definitely missing going out for brunch 🍳🥞 so we're going to do a fancy one at home tomorrow. Let me know your favorite brunch recipes below!

Think back to this time last year..what simple things did you take for granted? 💭⁠

For me, the list is embarrassingly long 🙈. Even though I consider myself a pretty reflective and grateful person, there are SO many things I took as a given. Things like walking down the street to pick up gorgeous flowers like these for just a few euros 💐, hopping on a train to another country on a whim 🚉, walking downstairs and across the street to a grocery store 🛒 where I could linger and attempt to decipher all the Dutch food labels (not to mention the amazing view of this gorgeous street from our apartment)…the list goes on and on 📝.⁠

That list would be different if we had been living here (in the US) last May, but it still goes to show how easily our brains 🧠 adapt to things and consider them normal, for better or for worse 🤷🏻‍♀️. Our natural tendency is to assume things will continue more or less as they are now, but life doesn’t work that way (as we’ve all been not-so-subtly reminded). ⁠

This time has been challenging in its own ways, but I’m really hopeful that things don’t go ALL the way back to normal and that I will continue this newfound practice of noticing and appreciating all the great things in my life, big and small ✨.⁠
